A beautifully crafted and exclusive spa within an 18th century Repton landscape This beautiful new spa recaptures Harrogate's historic heritage by using natural spring water to create a peaceful, serene space to relax and unwind. The multi-level extension to the Grade I listed Rudding Park hotel has the most comprehensive facilities in the country. A complex project, close collaboration was maintained with key trades and partners throughout the project. Careful management ensured there was no impact to the daily running of the prestigious four-star hotel and with a tight deadline, the project was delivered on time and to an exceptional standard. The spa has already received several awards, including a Good Spa Guide award for Best New Spa in the UK, Project of the Year at the NFB Awards and 'Highly Commended' at the prestigious RICS Awards. Henry Boot Construction are one of the best contractors we have worked with in the last twenty years. Their whole team were organised and approachable.
Oh, you'll be all in a whirl with a stay here. Not only does Rudding Holiday Park have a helipad for those who might like to pretend they're Bond, James Bond, but its setting in the grounds of Rudding Park Hotel means you'll be having a hol in the lap of luxury – even if you're only bringing your natty old tent. The grounds of this 50-acre park are whirly special, with a heated outdoor pool (charge applies), playground for little flyers, and the Deer House pub; cleverly, the pub overlooks both the pool and the playground, and has a games room inside for competitive and/or rainy days. When having a wander, there are gorgeous gardens and woodland, lush views and immaculately-maintained grounds: Rudding Holiday Park is a previous winner of the AA Best Campsite in Britain award and the friendly team keep facilities to the highest standards. Park guests are welcome to hover around the hotel facilities too when landing at Rudding: there's a spa, smart Clocktower restaurant with terrace and conservatory, and – rather fab – a private 14-seat cinema to hire for parties or just because.
Ordinarily I would have stayed put till the lights went out, but the outdoor infinity pool was calling and so to the top floor to take a dip and suss out the thermal facilities. Starting off with a foot spa, a glass of mulled wine and a discussion about the correct order to steam and sauna, we opted for a sit down in the Oxygen Pod and a Vitamin D hit of Sunlight Therapy before a saunter over to the rooftop pool. Pools on roofs are definitely fancy. Taking in a view as you submerge yourself in the warm water beneath a night's sky feels decadent, totally calming and every bit as wonderful as I'd heard. I would definitely recommend it. Suitably dried off and chilled out, we headed over to the 3AA Rosette restaurant, Horto for our evening meal. A spa café during the day and restaurant in the evening with an a la carte and a tasting menu on offer, this is a dining experience which is getting noticed for all the right reasons. Showcasing seasonal ingredients from the Rudding Park kitchen garden, Horto is modern and stylish with floor-to-ceiling windows – a fine reflection of the food that was to come.
Working in a live environment presents challenges, however they were incredibly efficient and most importantly, the standard of work was exceptional. I would recommend them unreservedly. The culture within the site cabins and monthly meetings was, without question, the most pleasant I've ever experienced. The whole experience was an absolute joy and the resulting project is one that we should all be very proud of. There's even a seven-course tasting menu showcasing local produce including vegetables and herbs from the kitchen garden and young grouse (this was late August) off the local moors. We had to try it and can report that it was all astonishingly good, involving cep dumplings with horseradish, crab on spicy squid crackers with pea and wasabi ice-cream, onion tart, ganaches, amuse-bouches, palate-cleansing 'waters' (a kind of broth) of tomato, and pea… I know this sounds like the kind of stuff that can become up-itself fancy but here, backed up with impeccable service from the young, enthusiastic kitchen team it was a delight from start to finish. They all knew exactly what was in each dish, where it came from and why it was put together in the way it was, which added greatly to the experience. I'd bet the food in the main restaurant, the Clocktower, is pretty fab too. I kicked myself that we hadn't opted for breakfast among the olive trees in pots in the sunny conservatory that forms part of the restaurant, but I'd been unable to resist the joy of ordering breakfast to the room.

Maybe it's the temperate climate and constant threat of rain that makes it so special when you can lie out. I felt the fluffy grey towels were a nod to slate roof of the original Rudding Park, happily matching the touch of grey in the soft clouds above. Gentle, a little bit dour, and ultimately super relaxing. Add birdsong, church bells and Yorkshire accents, and planting worthy of Chelsea Flower Show with bees buzzing and sun loving plants including golden oat grass. I even heard groups of northern guys chatting about relationships and work/life balance! I feel Rudding Park has done its job. Treatments are superb too. My thermal detox wrap began with an invigorating body brush and before I knew it I was swaddled like a baby being given the most delicious foot and scalp massages. Indulgent facials make full use of UK brand Elemental Herbology's natural unguents. Clever planting creates lots of private areas in the spa Indulge in a signature spa treatment Post treatment there's an array of relaxation rooms you can rest your brain and body.
Return in the morning for a healthy breakfast of overnight soaked oats and charcoal lemonade, more palatable than it sounds and apparently a good detoxant. And just past the spa reception there's a stylish shop full of gorgeous things you never knew you needed from cashmere ponchos to flamingo umbrellas. As the shop manager says, we try and stock things you won't find anywhere else in Harrogate. If you do tire of the spa (practically impossible, I could live there! ), there's an 18-hole golf course and the Repton Short Course featuring a version of the famous 17 th hole at Sawgrass in Florida! And on the doorstep you have Bettys Tea Rooms, Valley Gardens, Fountains Abbey World Heritage Site, Knaresborough Castle and York Minster. Hard to resist: Rudding Park's lifestyle shop
